Bus Rider Expectations

The most important factor in the success of Seattle Academy is the existence of supportive relationships between and among students and teachers and among faculty, administrators, and parents. These supportive relationships are the direct result of social interactions that are governed and guided by the SAAS core values.

It is our aspiration that the Seattle Academy community shares the core values of trust, respect, integrity, and responsibility. We demonstrate them in all communications and actions. This includes our expectations for bus ridership.

We TRUST riders to:

  • Use an appropriate volume and language when speaking.
  • Sit in and remain in a seat when on the bus.
  • Keep all body parts inside the bus.

Show RESPECT for others by:

  • Listening to the bus drivers’ instructions.
  • Sharing your seat when needed due to the number of riders.
  • Using headphones instead of open speakers.
  • Keeping your hands to yourself.

Maintain your INTEGRITY by:

  • Not throwing objects from the bus.
  • Not tampering with safety exits or equipment.
  • Carrying your full ID card to board the bus.
  • Using only your own ID to board the bus.
  • Not defacing property.

Take RESPONSIBILITY by:

  • Not eating or drinking on the bus and don’t bring open containers of food or drink on the bus. Water is okay.
  • Knowing emergency instructions and procedures.
  • Cleaning up after yourself when needed.
  • Waiting until the bus pulls away from a stop before crossing the street.

SAFETY NOTE: We scan students ID cards in the afternoon so that we have an accurate record of who is on board the bus on any given trip home. This allows us to answer any questions about where a bus rider might be, did they board the bus, etc. For this reason, students should only use their own ID card. Students who have been found to use another student’s card may be removed from the bus temporarily or permanently.

Please report any concerns to our Safety Line (206-676-6868) or to transportation@seattleacademy.org.
