Biography: Kate joined Seattle Academy’s Learning Support Department as a Study Skills Teacher in 2011. In addition to teaching US Study Skills, Kate leads the fall and spring MS Adventure Club, as well as the Odyssey, Yukon, and New Orleans trips. Originally from Shoreline, she spent twenty years learning, leading, and teaching outside of Washington. Kate holds a BS in Exercise Science and an MS Ed. in Special Education. She designed outdoor experiences and wilderness leadership curricula for middle school through adult, facilitated low and high ropes courses, and led numerous wilderness trips, including a three-week winter expedition that concluded on the shores of Lake Superior. Kate also taught in a rural public high school in rural Wisconsin for ten years, working with students with learning and emotional disabilities. She enjoys reading, wine tasting, urban foraging, kayaking, and snowshoeing, and is currently dreaming up her next summer backpacking adventure!
