Biography: Jonathon joined Seattle Academy in 2015 as an Upper School Counselor and spent eight years in the Counseling Department before becoming Department Chair of the Options Program. He earned a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Culture, Literature, and the Arts from the University of Washington Bothell and an M.A. in Psychology from Saybrook University. Before joining SAAS, his work ranged from business analysis and technology to community mental health and private-practice therapy. At the center of Jonathon’s work is a simple idea: see the human first. Drawing on his background in counseling and systems thinking, he is interested in how research and classroom practice can come together to better serve students, particularly in the areas of belonging, assessment, executive functioning, instructional design, and scaffolding. Outside of school, Jonathon enjoys movies, music, cooking and baking, spending time with his family, and going considerably farther down research rabbit holes than the original question probably required.
