In 2018, Joel Gamoran '03 published his first cookbook, Cooking Scrappy: 100 Recipes to Help you Stop Wasting Food, Save Money, and Love What You Eat

ParentMap, an online community that informs, engages, and inspires Puget Sound parents and families recently sat down with Joel for a Q&A Interview about the Cooking Scrappy Revolution. Joel was inspired to create this cookbook as a driving force behind the zero-waste food movement in response to the "shocking 40 percent of the food produced in the United States is unused — this while an unacceptable 49 million households deal with food insecurity every year."

Joel currently oversees the content and curriculum for Sur La Table's cooking classes and hosts the culinary series "Scraps." He is featured traveling to food-forward cities across the United States and collaborates with chefs and zero waste champions. In the Q&A with ParentMap, Joel covered everything from his interest in cooking scrappy, his favorite scrap and macgyver in the kitchen, and favorite recipes from his cookbook.
