SAAS: Senior Outreach Yukon Travel Information Group 1

Class of 2026 Updates and Checklist

Senior Yukon Group 1 Students and Families,

Mid-winter break is wrapping up, and the Yukon Trip, Senior Projects, and Commencement are right around the corner! As we move into the final stretch of the school year, we want to make sure you have all the key deadlines and reminders in one place. Please review the information below carefully and note the upcoming due dates. As always, you can find all Class of 2026 information on their webpage.

Yukon Travel Information: March 5-11, 2026

It’s go time! Group 1 will head out to the Yukon on Thursday, March 5, 2026. Here are some important pre-trip reminders:

  • If you were missing gear from Gear Check night, you MUST bring in those items in order to leave on the trip.
  • To access your packs to drop off items you were missing during gear check, here are the dates, times, and locations you can do so!

    • Monday, March 2, Middle School Seminar Room, Lunch (12:20 PM - 1:20 PM)

    • Tuesday, March 3, Middle School Seminar Room, Lunch (12:20 PM - 1:20 PM)

    • Wednesday, March 4, Middle School Seminar Room, Lunch (12:20 PM - 1:20 PM)

  • Cell phone policy reminder: to support safety, focus, and the integrity of the backcountry experience (not to mention there is nowhere to charge phones), students will turn in their cell phones upon arrival in Whitehorse. Phones will be returned before traveling back to Seattle, allowing students to use them during the flight and on the bus ride from the airport to SAAS. This plan exists because there is no cell service at Lake Laberge, no reliable charging options, and phones are easily lost or damaged in winter travel conditions. Families will be sent an emergency contact plan the week of departure, and SAAS staff will maintain appropriate communication protocols throughout the trip. Families will receive updates as needed.
  • For any concerns or questions during the trip, please reach out to SAAS Safety at 206-676-6868.
  • Double-check that you have your valid passport book with you! Passport cards and enhanced driver’s licenses will not be accepted.

Departure: Thursday, March 5

  • Seniors must check into the Upper School gym on Thursday morning at 7:30 AM. We are flying on Air North, leaving Vancouver International Airport at 2:35 PM.

  • For the flight, students should wear base layers under comfortable street clothes and comfortable shoes to avoid overheating. Pack heavy gear (boots, snow pants, puffers) at the very top of the checked dry bags. This "top-of-bag" strategy allows students to quickly access these items and fully dress for the ice at the Whitehorse airport, keeping daypacks light and preventing them from sweating through gear. Keep a flashlight/headlamp accessible for arriving at camp in the dark.

  • Double-check that you have your valid passport book with you!

  • Bring a sack lunch with you.

Return to Campus Timing on March 11

We expect our flight to land at the Vancouver International Airport at 2:10 PM on Wednesday, March 11. Buses will then transport students back to SAAS. Our estimated arrival is between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM at the 16th Avenue parking lot, depending on traffic and border wait times.

Transportation@seattleacademy.org will send an email to senior families with an updated return time after we are through the border crossing.
