Congratulations to the Seattle Academy Upper School Advanced Dance team who recently received a Second Place Award out of forty dance teams in the large group category at the NUVO Dance Convention and Competition held at Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue from January 31 - February 2. The team also received a GOLD Award for overall performance.

In a room of 500+ students, two Seattle Academy dancers were recognized with individual performance awards by NUVO with a NUVO/Studio Award + Scholarship in the following categories:

  • Stella Horns '20 received a NUVO Recognition for Hip Hop!
  • Lily Wong '21 received a NUVO Recognition for Hip Hop!

Following the competition, Advance Dance Faculty member Alicia Mullikin shared, "I cannot express how proud I am of each and every one of them. Not only did they perform beautifully, but more importantly they showed up for each other, cared for one another, and danced whole-heartedly!"

NUVO has allowed several larger organizations (SAAS is one) to grant one student a scholarship for the 2021 season. SAAS Dance Faculty Amy Lambert and Alicia Mullikin decided to give this award to a student who consistently displays appropriate etiquette, team camaraderie, and sportsmanship. They were excited to award this to Alden McGonagle '21, who exemplified these qualities throughout the convention.
