Seattle Academy Student Sculpture Art Activate their Automations
Beginning Seattle Academy Visual Arts sculpture students learn different woodworking skills through the challenge of building a working automaton. First, the class learns methods for measuring, cutting, and fastening wood so that they could make a simple box. Next, tools are introduced for carving a small wooden object that could be animated in the automaton. Finally, different gears and mechanisms are covered for activating the sculpture through turning a simple crank or other basic interaction. The video below is the results of the Sculpture classes investigation into wood working and interactive sculpture.
