Spring Sports Wrap-Up: New School Records, a New Sport, and State-Wide Recognition

Seattle Academy wrapped up our second year in the Metro Conference last week closing out the spring with great success. Nine school records were set in track, and 15 individuals qualified for the State Meet.  The Cardinals also fielded a fastpitch softball team for the first time in school history.   

Baseball

In just their second season, the SAAS baseball team finished in second place in the Sound Division of the Metro Conference with a conference record of 10-5 (12-9 overall), two games behind Roosevelt. The boys’ team was eliminated by Eastside Catholic in the Metro playoffs.

Senior Eli H. was named Metro Sound Conference Most Valuable Player and 1st-Team All-Metro (Pitcher and Infielder).  Seniors Cole B. (Pitcher and Infielder) and Dashiell S. (Pitcher and Outfielder) were both named 2nd-Team All-Metro.  All three seniors were selected to play in the Metro All-Star Game. To top off the season, Eli was named Gatorade “Player of the Year” for the state of Washington.

Fastpitch Softball

The inaugural season of fastpitch softball at SAAS was a great success, as the Cardinals finished third in the Metro Sound Conference. SAAS qualified for the District Tournament before being eliminated by Interlake in the first round. Three players were named 2nd-Team All-Metro:  Junior Sophia M. (Infield) and sophomores Abby F. (Infield) and Maya L-G. (Pitcher).

Lacrosse

The boys’ lacrosse team finished third in the Metro Private League (4-2 in league, 8-3 overall).  They qualified for the WHSBLA Private School Bracket of the State Tournament. The Cardinals won their first-round game over Wenatchee before being eliminated in the quarterfinals by Curtis. 

Senior Cole B. was named 1st-Team All-Metro Private League and was also named to the Washington State academic All-American Team.  Junior Will C. was named 2nd-Team All-Metro.

The girls’ lacrosse team finished fourth in the Independent League of the WSLA with a record of 6-6.  They were eliminated in the first round of the State Tournament by Lakeside.  For the second straight year, senior Malea C. was named 1st-Team All-Metro.  Joining her on the 1st-Team was senior Georgia G.  The girls lacrosse team also received the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Golf

In girls’ golf, junior Phoebe G. and senior Haven B. both qualified for the State Tournament, with Haven winning the team’s annual coaches' award. 

Soccer

The boys’ soccer team finished the Metro Sound Conference season with a record of 6-10-2.  They were eliminated in the Metro Playoffs by Seattle Prep. Four players earning individual honors: Nikhil B. ’27 (Second Team), Henry P. ’27 (Second Team), Sebastian T. ’29 (Second Team), and Evan S. ’27 (Honorable Mention).

Tennis

The girls’ tennis team finished the Metro Mountain Conference season with an overall record of 5-6.  Sophomores Fina G. and Cara N. were co-winners of the team's annual coaches' award.  The boy’s tennis team finished the Metro Mountain Conference season with a record of 4-6.  Junior Ian B. qualified for the District Tournament and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player.

Track

The 2026 track season saw 25 SAAS athletes qualify for the Metro Championships, 22 athletes qualify for the District Championships, and 15 athletes qualify for the State Meet.  

Qualifying for the State Meet were senior Ellis B. (100m, 4x400), junior Maxine C. (200m, 400m 4x400), junior Jasper E. (Triple Jump, 4x400), junior Lily J. (4x400), senior Saniyah M. (Javelin), freshman Jalen M. (4x400), junior Ray M. (4x400), senior Amara P. (Pole Vault, Discus), sophomore Liam R. (4x400), junior Russell S. (4x400), junior Emmy S. (4x400), freshman Isabelle S. (4x400), senior Dionysus S. (100m, 200m, 400m, 4x400), sophomore Robinson W. (4x400), and sophomore Chloe W. (High Jump, 4x400).  

At the State Meet, Maxine placed 2nd in the 400m, Amara placed 4th in the Pole Vault and 7th in the discus, and Dionysus placed 3rd in the 200m, 5th in the 100m, and 7th in the 400m.  

In addition, SAAS set nine new school records during the 2026 track season: five girls and four boys.

In girls’ track, Emmy set two individual records, one in the 1600m (5:03.39) and one in the 3200m (10:58.45).  She, along with Maxine, Lily, and Jalen, was part of the school-record-setting 4x400 relay team (4:02.48).  Amara broke her own school record in the discus (123’4”), and Maxine set the school record for the 400m (55.63).

In boys’ track, records were set by Jasper in the triple jump (45’6”) and Dionysus in the 100m (10.52) and 400m (47.76).  The relay team of Ellis, Ray, Russell, and Dionysus set the school record in the 4x400 (3:23.16).  Jasper, Dionysus, and the relay team all won the Metro Championship.

Ultimate

In ultimate, the girls finished their season with a 2-7 record.  Junior Katherine G. and sophomore Katelyn S. were named co-winners of the team’s Most Valuable Player award.

Middle School Sports

The successful sports season this spring was not just limited to the upper school level.  The SAAS Middle School also had a great spring. The girls’ 6th-grade volleyball team made it as far as the JV CYO semifinals. Overall, SAAS fielded teams in lacrosse, golf, track, ultimate, and volleyball with nearly 200 kids participating.
