Fall 2025 Sports Wrap Up

By: Asha Dean and Marc Moquin

This week, Seattle Academy wrapped up our second fall as a member of the Metro League. Here are some of the highlights.

Cross country

In cross country, Brayden Forcum ’26, Reni Dadhia ’26, Katherine Greenway ’27 and Emmy Schindler ’27 all qualified for the District Meet, with Emmy moving on to the State Meet.

Golf

In golf, both the boys’ (3-8 in the regular season) and the girls’ (5-5 in the regular season) teams qualified for the District Tournament.  The boys team finished second in the Metro Tournament and consisted of: Rylan Galante ’26, Max Glaser ’28, Francis Han ’26, Zayn Pastakia ’26, Maxwell Williams ’27 and Miles Yurcisin ’27.  Zayn finished with the best score at the District Tournament missing out on the State Tournament by just one stroke.

The girls team finished fifth in the Metro Tournament and consisted of:  Haven Bigatel ’26, Marissa Castro ’26, Phoebe Gandt ’27, Kailey Karr ’26, Sydney Klein ’28 and Ellie Iwen-Stelle ’26.  They will play their District Tournament in the spring.

Soccer

The girls’ soccer team finished 8-5-2 overall (5-4-2 in league play), qualified for the Metro playoffs.  They won their first game, defeating Ingraham, 3-2 before falling to Eastside Catholic, 2-1 in the second round.

Ultimate

In Ultimate, the boys team qualified for the league playoffs and won their first game before being eliminated in the second round.

Volleyball

After playing in the Sound Division of the Metro League last year, the girls’ volleyball team moved up to the Mountain Division of the Metro League this season and qualified for the league playoffs.  The girls won three Metro League playoff matches to qualify for the District Tournament where they were eliminated in a hard fought match by Mercer Island.

Individual honors went to Avery McIntosh ’27 who was named First-Team All-Metro League.  Gabriela Bunin ’26 was named to the Second-Team and Cate Arntz ‘26 was named Honorable Mention. The varsity volleyball team topped off the season by winning the Metro League Sportsmanship Award.

Middle School Sports

In the middle school SAAS athletics had 46% of the student body turnout to represent the Cardinals in the fall offerings of girls’ soccer, boys’ soccer, coed cross country, and girls’ volleyball. The teams competed in the Crosstown Middle School League, and Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) League.

The philosophy of middle school sports is to provide an opportunity for student-athletes to try the seasonal sports regardless of their prior sports experience. Teams are assembled based upon ability with the goals being to make cross-grade connections, build foundational skills in a sport, and grow as a student-athlete.

A highlight of the middle school season was Boys CYO 7 Team’s undefeated regular season (7-0), and berth in the championship game. While the Cardinals came up short (0-1) vs Our Lady of Fatima, Head Coach Craig Tomlinson could not be prouder of the grit and growth mindset the team exhibited during the season.

“They grew as soccer players this season showing progress, sportsmanship, and respect for the game. They represented what SAAS Athletics is all about,” shared Tomlinson.
