In mid-May, Seattle Academy finished Season 2 of the athletic year topping the season off with three Emerald Sound Conference championships! Boys’ golf, girls’ tennis, and girls’ ultimate all won championships in their respective sports.

GOLF

In boys’ golf, all six SAAS participants finished in the top 24 as the Cardinals won the championship by two strokes over Bear Creek. Senior brothers Elias Malakoff ’21 (3rd overall), Max Malakoff ’21 (7th overall), and their cousin Itai Malakoff ’23 (4th overall) led the way. Chris Tappan ’23 (13th overall) and John King ’23 (14th overall) gave the Cardinals five top-15 finishers. Elias, Max, and Itai all received 1st-Team All-League Honors. In girls’ golf, sophomore Brett Han ’23 and freshman Sofia Cheuk ’24 qualified for the ESC League Tournament after representing SAAS well in matches throughout the regular season.

TENNIS

In girls’ tennis, the Cardinals won the Emerald Sound Conference as Sophia Fonseca ’22 won the #1 singles division and the team of Ella Hendelman ’23 and Izze Escalona ’22 won the #3 doubles division. The doubles team of Tess Faury ’21  and Lauren Pearl ’21 finished third in their division as did the team of Fiona Bor ’21 and Annabel Robertson ’23.  Sophia, Tess, and Lauren all received 1st-Team All-League Honors.

ULTIMATE

In a very exciting championship game, the girls’ ultimate team defeated Northwest, 8-7, to win the title.  Zoe Bishop ’22, Lucy VanNewkirk ’21, and Jenna Li ’23 all received ESC All-League Honors.

TRACK AND FIELD

In track, both the boys’ and girls’ teams finished in the top ten. The boys were particularly impressive, having finished third despite a relatively small team of just nine members. Several athletes set personal records led by Shay Meseck-Schick ’23 who set the school pole vault record with a jump of 14-4. Shay also won the Triple Jump and was a part of the school’s first ever 4 x 100 championship relay team. Along with Shay, the 4 x 100 relay team was comprised of Lex Capestany ’22, Luca Kennedy ’21, Ciaran Pratley ’22, and Deja So-Gilmore ’23.  Lex also received All-League Honors in the 100, 200, and Long Jump.

SOCCER

In boys’ soccer, sophomore Eric Grossman-Glover ’23 was named 1st-Team All-League. Sophomore Kenzo ’23 Schiffer and senior Mack Dougan ’21 were named to the 2nd-Team.

As in Season 1, SAAS did not compete competitively against other schools on the middle school level, but held numerous clinics and "pods" for the middle school kids throughout the seven-week season. Over 150 kids participated in soccer, basketball, lacrosse, and ultimate.

And finally, a shout-out to our Season 2 seniors! Thank you and good luck with the rest of the school year and beyond! Go Cardinals!
