What's Coming Up for Cardinal Basketball

SAAS basketball is in its first week of winter play, and we caught up with both varsity coaches to get a season preview. Join the Flock and catch a game at home or away; full season schedules can be found here. Circle the dates for SAAS Pride: Winter Hoopla 2025, and be sure to wear red!

Girls Varsity

Coaches: Head Coach: Taylor Mulberg is entering his fourth year leading the Lady Cardinals on the hardwood. Assistant Coach: Tessa Sechler.

Season Goals: Top goals for the team are to have fun and build team chemistry to make them a stronger unit on the court.

Team Overview: Strong senior leadership, coupled with young student-athletes that bring a lot to the table. Overall the team is highly athletic, aggressive on defense, and has multiple ways to get the ball in the basket. Coach Mulberg feels the key to success this year is to continue building upon the foundation of the program in year two in the Metro League. Additionally, players need to buy into their roles and remain mentally tough when they face adversity.

Boys Varsity

Coaches: Ryan Webb in his first year at the helm for the Cardinals. Assistant Coach: Josh Brown.

What Do You Bring to the Program: Coach Webb was a successful basketball player at a high level in high school and college. He is a proven winner at both the college and professional levels. He loves SAAS and hopes to teach student-athletes how the growth-mindset can positively impact their play on the court.

Season Goals: In year one under Coach Webb, the goal is simply to compete in each game and get better each week by learning from film and making the adjustments.

Team Overview: The team has depth all the way down the bench this season and remains strong even when subbing. The Cardinals have size, athleticism, and can shoot from all over the court. Keys to their success this year is the team realizing how talented they are and what they can achieve.
