Middle School Students Complete Annual Trips

Group of sixth graders canoeing on the lake

Last week, our 6th and 7th graders went on two very different trips with the same ultimate goal, class bonding and unity. The 6th grade completed their annual SEE Trip, a three-day, two-night adventure to NatureBridge on the Olympic Peninsula. The 7th grade participated in two day trips. The grade split in two with half completing the ropes course at Camp Long and half donating their time to Northwest Harvest. The next day the groups switched locations.

The 6th grade S[ee] E[xperience] E[xplore] is an annual outing that combines an opportunity for fun and learning. The 6th graders canoed, hiked, played games, and just enjoyed each other’s company. The students also studied watersheds and freshwater aquatic marine environments. Through a combination of hands-on field work and interaction with knowledgeable field staff and resident scientists, students had the opportunity to learn new approaches to scientific investigation while at the same time reinforced skills and concepts learned this year in the classroom. Groups brought back data that they will manipulate in the science classroom in an on-going investigation of water quality issues.

The 7th grade trip combined opportunities for the students to test themselves and learn trust in each other at the ropes course as well as learn more about civic responsibility and volunteerism by donating their time at Northwest Harvest. The grade typically travels to Kent again in the Winter trimester to continue that relationship.
