On the first Friday of the school year, September 7, the 6th grade took a field trip for a day of service and spent it cleaning up the beach at Carkeek Park.

The day was spent working with Puget Soundkeeper Alliance as part of the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Clean Up. Upon arrival, we were split into our advisory groups and picked up trash all along the beaches, the trails, and by the train tracks. During this wonderful experience, we met many new classmates and got closer to our friends. We picked up trash that was all different shapes, sizes, and materials. In all, we collected over forty pounds of trash. While that means we saved approximately six marine animals in the Puget Sound, we have to keep fighting to save more.
