SAAS in the City Turns Into A Record-Breaking Event

Photo of the Seattle Academy's 2016 SAAS in the City Crowd

This year SAAS in the City was a night to break records!  With 591 tickets sold for the event, on January 30 at Fremont Studios we welcomed 535 guests – our largest audience to date. Two phenomenal raffle prizes drew an all-time high in ticket sales raising $42,800. One winner received the Seattle Experiences package valued over $10,000 including culinary outings, arts experiences, indoor skydiving, a private helicopter tour and more. A second winner received two VIP tickets (plus special entry and swag!) for the sold-out Adele concert at Key Arena on July 25. Leading up to the event, SAAS families broke another record donating 148 bottles of exceptional wine for the Wine Grab, another popular fundraiser during the cocktail hour.

Following a three-course dinner and dynamic program, a new Mobile Giving platform was introduced to receive donations via text for Seattle Academy’s Faculty Professional Development Fund. When Seattle Academy called, our guests answered!  In minutes our $225,000 goal was exceeded lighting up the real-time giving thermometer on video screens around the room! Thank you to our donors for these generous gifts which provide vital resources for teachers to build new programs, fuel curricular innovations, and create a learning environment that develops 21st century skills.

A special THANK YOU to SAAS in the City event chairs Gerlinde Whetzell (Jessica ’16), Erika Grayson (Sydney ’20), and Julie Eitel (George ’16), as well as our parent and staff volunteers, alumni presenters (Alana Bell ’03, Sarah Freeman ’03, Rachel Godbe ’07, Brooks Hopp ’08, Connor Raikes ’09, and Daniel Stewart ’11), and our student performers and wait staff (totaling over 100!) All helped make this special evening possible!
