Tutoring Resources

Tutoring in academic subjects can help students who benefit from support that is time-limited and focused on a specific discipline or skill. Seattle Academy offers the following resources and references:

Peer Tutoring

Our peer-tutoring program matches pairs of students for tutoring in academic subjects. Students coordinate for themselves when to meet during the day and students who are tutors earn community action hours for their time.  Students interested in signing up to give or receive tutoring should contact peertutoring@seattleacademy.org

Math Tutoring

The Math Department runs a drop-in math tutoring program during lunch for students of all levels. Please see the Student Meetings calendar for information on when and where the tutoring session is happening.

Private Tutor Referrals

Seattle Academy maintains a tutor referral list of private, for-hire tutors that families can contract directly with for additional academic support. For a referral list for Middle School or Upper School students, please contact our Accommodations Coordinator

Seattle Public Schools Services

Students attending independent schools in Seattle may be eligible for limited special education services through a Service Plan funded by Seattle Public Schools. Eligibility is determined through an evaluation process, which families can request from SPS at no cost. To learn more about Service Plans, visit the Seattle Public Schools website. If you have any questions or would like guidance, contact the Learning Specialist for your student’s division.

Tutors on the list have been interviewed by the Learning Support department to confirm their qualifications and suitability for working with students and have passed the Criminal Background Checks (including fingerprinting) required by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI). Some tutors are available to come to campus to work with students during a study hall, lunch period, or after school, others will travel to meet with the student at their home or other location, and others provide tutoring at a specific location that the student would need to travel to. If a student is working with a tutor who is not on our referral list and want the tutor to work with them at SAAS, the tutor must have cleared our background check process before they can work on campus. Students should not share the building codes with outside tutors and tutors should sign in as visitors at the front desk before every meeting.

Our referral list does not include tutor fees as those are subject to change without our knowledge, but our referral list includes a range of tutor experiences and the fees typically range anywhere from $30/hr to $125/hr for experienced tutors with specialized skills.

For Middle School and Upper School students, please contact Dawn Abbott, Accommodations Coordinator.
