In Washington state, when a child turns 13, the child attains the authority to make certain health care decisions without parental consent and confidentiality of such medical records. This extends at least to sensitive information regarding mental health, substance use, and reproductive and sexual health care. These restrictions may be broader in the event that the minor is determined to be a “mature minor” by the health care provider. The School maintains these restrictions in the sharing of such sensitive information for students 13 and older.
