Band

Central to the philosophy of the SAAS Band Program is the belief that music is a powerful and joyful catalyst for personal growth. The Band Program is open to all Middle and Upper School students and provides a year-long opportunity for musical development and expression. Jazz is the program focus, and students frequently work with specialist coaches, guest artists, and clinicians. All Band students perform in two school concerts each year and at End-of-Trimester Performances, and the advanced ensemble travels and competes at jazz festivals. The SAAS Drumline and Pep Band also perform at large-scale athletic events such as our SAAS Pride: Fall, Winter, and Spring events. While almost all ensembles meet in class blocks during the school day, some optional Middle and Upper School jazz combos rehearse outside of class time.

PERFORMANCES

SAAS bands perform at prestigious venues, place at competitive festivals, and work with professional mentors throughout the year. Jazz Band I has placed at the Reno Jazz Festival, performed live on air at 88.5 KNKX studios, and performs regularly at the local jazz club The Royal Room. Students regularly work with professional musicians in clinics and perform with them at school concerts.
