Digital Music Production

Digital Music Production provides students with access to recording hardware technology and digital audio software, allowing them to compose, produce, and record original music in a creative, multimedia environment. Through personal exploration and regular dynamic collaboration, students develop their voices and experience the joy of music composition and production.

Digital Music Production is offered as a class for 8th graders and as both a class and a club for Upper School students. Both the class and the club have access to a recording studio to work in and produce their final products, and each student has the opportunity to find a unique role in one or more of the many aspects of music production. Guest artists also reinforce the values of the creative voice and professional-level output.

Middle School

The Digital Music Production course is open to 8th grade students who learn the basics of the discipline in a group setting, implement their learning at individual workstations, and collaborate with other students in a peer-learning model. The class culminates with a final project. One of this year’s final projects included a live performance for an audience of over 600 SAAS parents, faculty, and alumni at our annual SAAS in the City community event.

Upper School

In Upper School classes, students learn new concepts in a group setting, implement their learning at individual workstations, and collaborate with other students in a peer-learning model. The class culminates with a final project. One of this year’s final projects included a live performance for an audience of over 600 SAAS parents, faculty, and alumni at our annual SAAS in the City community event

In addition to classes, an Upper School Digital Music Club gives students extended time to produce and record their own music. This includes music they may have written alone or in collaboration with other writers, singers, and/or musicians.
