Instrumental

Central to the philosophy of the SAAS Instrumental Program is the belief that music is a powerful and joyful catalyst for personal growth. The Instrumental Program is open to all Middle and Upper School students and provides year-long opportunity for musical development and expression. With jazz as the overarching program focus, students frequently work with specialist coaches, guest artists, and clinicians. All Instrumental students perform in two school concerts each year and at End-of-Trimester Performances, and the advanced ensembles travel and compete at jazz festivals. The SAAS Drumline and Pep Band also perform at large-scale athletic events such as Fall and Spring Manias and Basketball Mania.

Both Middle and Upper School have a combination of ensembles that meet during the regular school day and ensembles that meet before school.

Middle School

Middle School

●     6th, 7th, and 8th grade Band classes meet by grade level during the school day.

●     The Middle School Jazz Combo meets two days a week before school, and Drum Line meets before school leading up to major events.

Upper School

Upper School

●     Jazz Ensemble I and Jazz Ensemble II (placement by audition) meet during the school day.

●     The Upper School Jazz Combo meets three days a week before school, and Drum Line meets before school leading up to major events.

●     The SAAS Pep Band is a combination of 8th Grade band, Jazz Ensemble I, and Jazz Ensemble II, and it performs at Basketball Mania.

PERFORMANCES

SAAS bands perform at prestigious venues, place at competitive festivals, and work with professional mentors throughout the year. Jazz Band I has placed at the Reno Jazz Festival, performed live on air at 88.5 KNKX studios, and performed at local jazz club Tula's.
