Self-Discipline
Musicianship is developed through coursework that teaches the self-discipline of practice and performance that leads to excellence.
Central to the philosophy of the SAAS Instrumental Program is the belief that music is a powerful and joyful catalyst for personal growth. The Instrumental Program is open to all Middle and Upper School students and provides year-long opportunity for musical development and expression. With jazz as the overarching program focus, students frequently work with specialist coaches, guest artists, and clinicians. All Instrumental students perform in two school concerts each year and at End-of-Trimester Performances, and the advanced ensembles travel and compete at jazz festivals. The SAAS Drumline and Pep Band also perform at large-scale athletic events such as Fall and Spring Manias and Basketball Mania.
Both Middle and Upper School have a combination of ensembles that meet during the regular school day and ensembles that meet before school.
