String Ensemble
String Ensemble at SAAS is designed for intermediate to advanced string players (violin, viola, cello, bass) who want to grow as musicians and collaborators. The class focuses on classical chamber music while building the essential skills of strong ensemble playing. Repertoire is selected to match the group’s overall level, with the goal of developing a unified sound and preparing polished End-of-Trimester performances.
Students learn chamber music essentials—both verbal and non-verbal communication, ensemble techniques, musical expression, sight reading, and performance skills—that help them succeed as individual musicians and as part of a group.
In Middle School, the String Ensemble is a mixed-grade class open by audition to intermediate to advanced players. The repertoire is chosen for its engaging quality, and students develop strong ensemble skills. 6th grade students who are new to violin can also take a Beginning Violin course to jump start their strings experience.
