Senior Projects Dates & Information
SENIOR PROJECT PARENT ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FORM
The Senior Project Program is a non-paid educational opportunity designed to introduce Seattle Academy 12th-grade students to real-world professional job experiences in a career field of their interest.
In response to continued COVID-19 concerns, the project parameters provide a maximum amount of flexibility for individuals, businesses, and organizations that have the ability to work with our students. Additional layers of support are in place related to the school providing remote supervision to help ensure success. The program can accommodate on-site, remote, and hybrid project opportunities. And, since the start of the pandemic, we experienced an increase in team projects for both the 2020 and 2021 spring projects. Project teams have ranged from 2-6 students.
Projects can be individual or team focused with specific goals and objectives that will be measured on outcomes rather than the typical 25-30 hour per week on-site expectation in the past. The project expectations should be worked out with the site and student on a case by case basis. As businesses continue to offer both in-person and remote work options, the decision to have students conduct their project at the physical location will be a family decision for each student in partnership with the organization.
Projects dates are Monday, April 25 - Friday, May 27 and Project Presentation Night is scheduled for Tuesday, May 31. Options are still being considered regarding a remote or in-person Presentation Night. More specific information will be shared at a later date once the details are finalized.
-
Program Objective: The objective of the Senior Project Program is to provide Seattle Academy students with career exploration opportunities in alignment with our mission to “challenge students to question, imagine and create in order to contribute to a boldly changing world.”
-
Unpaid Internship: The program meets the U.S. Department of Labor Internship Programs Fair Labor Standards Act criteria. Seattle Academy also provides full liability insurance for all students participating in our program.
-
Faculty Support: All students work directly with an adult faculty project advisor prior to the start of the program, at which time, all program expectations and goals are discussed.
-
Parent Support: If you have any contacts in the career field your student is interested in, please share them with your student. We will then assist them in making contact and sharing the appropriate information about program expectations.

Senior Project Presentation Night will be back on campus for an in-person experience! Join us on May 31 at 7PM in the Middle School building and learn from our seniors about their experiences and takeaways from their Senior Projects this year. Families and friends are invited to this event.
More Details
This year’s event will be held in person and on campus in our Middle School building located at 1137 13th Avenue, 98122. Parking is available in the STREAM Garage and the 16th Avenue lot, and you can enter through the main Middle School entrance on 13th Avenue. Culture of Performance is a guiding principle of SAAS, which is why our students demonstrate what they’ve learned throughout their senior project in front of an audience. Presentation Night is not only the culmination of their five-week senior project, it is also a culmination of their entire experience at Seattle Academy. The program will begin with a brief welcome at 7:00 PM in the Middle School Commons area, followed by two 40-minute presentation sessions. Four to five projects will be grouped together in a classroom based on internships in similar career fields. Each project will present for five minutes, followed by a brief Q&A after all of the presentations. We hope you join us as we celebrate the Class of 2022. Please click on the link below to see which session and room students are presenting in. |

Senior Class Grad Night: June 8, 2022
Dear SAAS Seniors and Families,
We are thrilled to announce that SAAS Senior Grad Night will take place immediately following graduation, on June 8, 2022!
Grad Night is a party that senior class parents organize; it is not a school sponsored event. The party provides seniors with an opportunity for a safe, drug and alcohol-free celebration with non-stop entertainment, all night long. SAAS Senior Grad Night gives seniors one last chance to be together as a class. This event will only happen once in a lifetime, but the memories will remain for years and years to come.
We have been hard at work creating the ultimate party that will send our seniors off in style! The party begins with organized bus transportation picking up students directly from graduation at T-Mobile, traveling to surprise destinations with incredible entertainment, food and music, and then returning seniors to SAAS early in the morning on June 9th for family pick-up (approximately 5:00am).
Watch your mail for a Big Red Envelope containing all the forms you need to register for SAAS Senior Grad Night.
Registration Checklist
1. Open the Big Red Envelope that will be mailed to your address on file with SAAS. (Seniors, keep your eyes open for a special gift for you!). Click here for the PDF of the form.
2. Complete and sign all the forms and return them in the enclosed postage-paid envelope as soon as possible, but no later than April 22. (Mail to: Teresa Spellman Gamble, 8234 Fairway Drive NE, Seattle 98115)
3. Submit payment.
Questions? Please feel free to email us if you have questions, and if you are interested in helping us out!
Lisa Caputo (lisacaputo@aol.com) and Teresa Spellman Gamble (teresaspellgam@gmail.com)
P.S. We are working with a professional event planning firm, Grad Nights, and their insurance company will not allow forms to be signed digitally. Thanks for putting up with this old-school format; just think – it’ll be the last packet of forms you ever fill out for your senior!
