Parent/Guardian Volunteer Opportunities

In October and November Seattle Academy hosts Open Houses for prospective students and families to visit and learn about our school. We host families for conversations and students for visit days November-February.  Parent/Guardian volunteers play an important role as ambassadors and informal hosts through the Admission season. 

SAAS recruits parent/guardian volunteers to assist in the Arts and Athletics departments. In the Arts department, volunteers help with visual and performing arts shows (support with displays, backstage, on sets, costuming, ticket taking, etc) In Athletics, volunteers work with the director and coaches to support teams coordinating teats, score keeping, or planning an end of season party. Volunteers also participate in school-wide sports events such as Fall Sports Mania, Basketball Mania, and Spring Sports Fest. 

Class representatives organize parent/guardian coffees and socials, and recruit hosts for potlucks. Coffees and socials happen throughout the year, and potlucks are typically scheduled in the winter trimester. Check the school calendar for specific dates, times, and locations.

Parent/Guardian volunteers engage in a number of activities to recognize and thank faculty for their outstanding work. Faculty Appreciation events include the ever-popular Friday treats delivered monthly to the faculty lounges at the Middle School, Vanderbilt, STREAM, Arts Center, and Temple; Holiday Gift Baskets before winter break.

Seattle Academy logo wear (hats, sweatshirts, etc.) is sold at special events throughout the year. Parent volunteers play a key role in organizing and managing logo wear sales.  

Programs of special interest to parents/guardians are planned and presented by the very active Parent Education Committee sponsored by the Family Association. Parent Education events are often in cooperation with school faculty and counseling staff.

The Ski Bus Program offers weekly ski trips throughout the season. Parents/guardian volunteers are needed to chaperone. More details to come in Fall 2022. Questions? Contact Freddy Carley, Director of the Outdoor and Travel Program.

Returning families welcome new families to Seattle Academy as ambassadors at events, organizing socials, and by serving as "welcome mentors." Welcome mentors connect with new families to answer questions and provide a helping hand during the transition from applicant to enrolled family and starting the school year.

The President sets agenda and conducts Family Association meetings and coordinates activities of other Association officers. 

Vice Presidents oversee Family Association activities and manage parent/guardian volunteers in the following designated areas: Admissions Support; Faculty/Staff/Student Support; and Class Representatives support. 

The Recording Secretary takes, transcribes, and distributes Association meeting minutes taken at the three Family Association general meetings (Fall, Winter, and Spring) and monthly minutes at the Family Association Executive Board Meetings.

The Treasurer keeps accounts of financial transactions of the Family Association; deposits monies; and disburses funds.

The Parent Education Chair leads the Parent Education Committee and execution of the Parent Education Programs.
