Student Affinity Groups: SAAS offers multiple affinity groups for Middle and Upper School students. Our student affinity groups meet every other week during community time, with faculty advisors present to help facilitate.
The goals of the Affinity Group Program include:
- Creating a safe and welcoming environment with a focus on community and belonging for all students.
- Developing leadership skills and an understanding of their importance.
- Building a sense of self-worth, possibility, and confidence.
- Assisting SAAS Students as they build their social, racial, and cultural identities.
- Promoting a sense of belonging in the SAAS community.
Assemblies
Throughout the academic year, the Community Impact & Inclusion Team offers students opportunities to attend conferences and retreats for skill-building and collaboration with other students and adults focused on community and inclusion.
Learning Opportunities
Upper School Educational Forums
Educational forums provide Upper School students with opportunities to engage with and learn about complex, current issues.
Middle School: DEIB Advisory lessons and assemblies
Throughout Middle School, students engage in learning opportunities through age- and grade-appropriate lessons. Middle School assemblies highlighting cultures and identities are organized by adult affinity leaders and led by students of respective affinity groups.
SAAS Heritage Months
Student Affinity group leaders can lead Heritage Spotlight Fairs each trimester, designed to educate and celebrate the broad and varied cultural heritage and traditions represented in the SAAS community.
